"Great Band!" - The Bull's Head, St Neots (Fri 15th Jan 10)

I've just come back from The Bull's Head after hearing about this band through Lemonrock, and wanted to try to catch them at a local gig (I live in London) and this was the nearest. It was well worth the travelling... What I saw and heard was amazing.

There are not many rock bands around with a female singer, but I saw the videos online and knew from them that I was in for a treat! The pub was pretty crowded, seeing that it was January and before most people's pay day.

They played songs by one of my fav bands - Queens of the Stone Age - and the covers they played were both diverse and so different from the average rock band I've seen... Perhaps it's because of them having a female singer? They covered The Cranberries' "Zombie", a song I've never seen covered by a band before, and they did it brilliantly.

I will definitely be going to see this band again - despite the distance. Let me know if you're ever playing in the London area - I would recommend you guys (and gal) to any pub.

"What a band!" - The Globe, Letchworth (Sat 22nd Aug 09)

This band absolutely blew my socks off. Classic and contemporary Rock from Led Zeppelin to Muse, they were faultless. Penny, the singer had the most amazing voice I've ever heard for a female rock singer. They way she sang songs like White Rabbit, Alive and Black Dog, was awesome!

They also look great, black shirts for the guys and Penny in a sexy black basque and high boots - Brilliant, they looked and sounded very Pro.

I can see this band getting very big in the future and doing bigger venues and festivals, so if you wanna book them, I suggest you get in there quick.

Cheers guys for one of the best nights out in a long time!

"Crackin'!" - The White Hart, Godmanchester (Sun 16th Aug 09)

Absolutely crackin' gig at the White Hart last Sunday - I don't often get blasted in the middle of the day but 'Lost in Music' was me, never mind Sister Sledge - I forgot how much I drank 'till I was falling over - that's what happens when you listen to great music whilst at a beer festival!

These guys have got better and better over the last six months and just reel them out one after another. I can only reiterate what some of the other reviewers have said - make a special point of looking up their gig schedule and GO SEE THEM.

(Is that ok guys? You owe me a pint!). ;)

"Stonking afternoon!" - Nelson's Head, St Ives (Sun 10th May 09)

We don't get many chances to go to see other bands so when a Sunday afternoon came up I had to go. The pub was buzzing, a great atmosphere was waiting for the band to start, and they did, full of confidence with a great cover of Blondie. The band was very entertaining and delivered all the songs with great passion. Penny has a super voice backed by a very good band, nice and together, and not many gaps between songs which I like to see. I loved their version of Black Dog, they were very entertaining and got a fantastic reaction from the crowd at the Nelson, a brilliant afternoon. Keep it up guys! Go see them - you will not be disappointed.

"NOT 'My Favourite Mistake'" - The Cherry Tree Inn, Peterborough (Fri 27th Feb 09)

A deeply enriching and exciting night beckons you to see these guys! Penny (the lead singer) has one of the most unique and extraordinary - 'beefy' and rocky female voices I've ever heard! A voice that nicely punches and probes the very life out of your senses - with a deeply rich and inspiring blend of some of the most classic tracks of all time - with a wonderful backing band to boot!

Burlesque present a stunning mixture of tracks - sung by both men and women originally at different vocal ranges (see for yourself - see the diverse track list) - really demonstrating extraordinary diversity in talent! How is it possible that Penny can 'pull' all of these songs off?! Well, she frankly has a superb and presence demanding vocal range! Is there no end to the talents?!

Believe me 'Burlesque' - 'anytime, anyplace, anywhere, anyday', I'd be there to see you again, and you really wouldn't need to 'call me'!

Thanks for a fab night Burlesque - can't wait to catch you again.

"That girl can sing!" - The Cherry Tree Inn, Peterborough (Fri 27th Feb 09)

Friday evening Burlesque gave us another great night at The Cherry Tree on Oundle road. This band not only sound great but look good as well, Penny (the singer) dressed in her black basque and the guys in flamboyant shirts against the Burlesque backdrop all very pro.

This band gives us a rare treat, female vocals. Blending with talented musicians Craig on guitar, Andy on bass and Mark on drums, with that wonderful voice the lovely Penny performed songs we don't get from our local covers bands (good though the are), songs like Fleetwood Mac's Rhiannon, "Purple Rain" from Prince, then another from Fleetwood... "The Chain". Craig excelled with his Lindsay Buckingham guitar work complemented with its distinctive baseline from Andy. Wow! Probably my favourite was The Cranberries, "Zombie" where Penny really got going.

Thanks Penny and guys! Looking forward to the next gig.

"Brilliant!" - The Elm Tree Tavern, Peterborough (Fri 1st Aug 08)

Wow! What can I say about this up and coming rock covers band, Burlesque? I saw them for the first time at The Comet, and they were brilliant! One of the best bands I've seen in many years on the Peterborough scene. I'm now a fan and will be going to all their gigs. One of their best songs is "Alive" by Pearl Jam and another is "Knights of Cydonia" by Muse.
